Welcoming a Baby Girl - family Newborn Session

I'm never quite sure how toddlers or little children are going to respond to me, a stranger. Having been an excruciatingly shy child myself, I can sympathise with little people who regard new adults with weariness and uncertainty. However, as I walked in the door of this family's home, I was warmly welcomed by two gorgeous children. After meeting mum and dad, I chatted a little with them as I looked around to see where the best spots would be for photos. When I asked about their bedrooms, they took my hands and showed me their rooms with sweet trust. I decided the best places would be the lounge area and one of the bedrooms to incorporate more the family's home, as well as utilise the best light.

I have only met a few young siblings who showed such love and devotion to their baby sister. They needed no persuading to touch, cuddle or kiss her and it was such a joy to witness and capture their interactions.

We captured some shots with just the siblings together, then the newest member of the family on her own. We spent some time guiding the children into a few activities, including reading to their baby sister, and then it was time for some family photos and shots of mum and dad alone with their newborn, and then together. I try not to follow a clear format for my family sessions, but prefer for them to unfold naturally depending on how the baby and siblings are coping. I want to avoid this being a trial, but rather a fun and special experience for everyone with my images being true reflections of each family member and their individual personalities.

To finish up and provide a welcome distraction, we ventured outside to take a few photos of the family with their dog and playing some basketball. I had such a wonderful time with this family, and once again am grateful for the opportunity to be invited into a home to tell a story that can be enjoyed and treasured for years to come.
